So I went to the International Woodworking Fair, since Atlanta isn't too far away. I visited with the Axiom guys and wandered around the rest of the day, only seeing about 1/2 of what was there, and I happened upon this guy. The first picture is the machine: A cnc router with 4th axis and automatic tool changer, roughing shaper, sanding belt shaper, and finish sander. The second picture is what it made. I asked the price, and recall only that it was several times the value of my house. One of many very cool big boy cnc machines at the show.

So what exactly is that? Is it all one piece?

It's cool is what it is. Apart from that, not sure, but that machine can make a bunch of them. Yes, it is all one piece. Looks like some type of huge (it was 12 - 16" tall) finial for something.
