I have added a laser to my Axiom Pro+ 8. The problem is the laser automatically turns on when I start running a program even before it executes the first G00 move line in the program. Is there a setting I need to change so the spindle/laser start and stop are handled via M codes and not at the beginning of a program? The spindle does the same thing without the laser and the laser turns off at the end of the program so I know it isn't a laser issue.

Are you sure you are using the laser pp and not the standard axiom post processor? There is a separate one for the laser. The only setting I ever change when using the laser is setting the spindle delay to 0 and safe height to 1 www.axiomprecision.com/post

I am using the laser pp. I even tried just a 2 line program with a G00X20.0Y20.0 move and an M05 at the end and still the laser came on during the move. If I flip the switch on the laser control to spindle, the spindle starts for that move as well.

Make certain your mode selector switch is set to the right (input control mode). The mode selector switch is immediately to the right of your red reset switch. It only has two positions (left is CW mode, continuous-wave mode) and right (input control mode). When set to CW mode, the laser will remain on continuously. You should always have the switch set to the right (input control mode) except under rate circumstances like perhaps burning down your shop or home. :-)
