Where do you guys get your wood from? I have been running a lot of plywood, so I have been getting it from home depot. But the nicer woods start going up in price, is there a better place than home Depot.

I do a lot of turning also but whenever a storm blows through I go hunting and mill it up later after it has dried for a while. These pieces here should be ready next year sometime

I usually use Baltic Birch Ply wood. About every 4-6 months, Rockler has a sale on 3/4 x 30 x 60 inch. About $25 a sheet if I recall. Last time it was on sale, I bought 12 pieces and still have a few left. The cheaper stuff at places like Home Depot is ok, but does have many uneven layers. I guess it depends on what you intend to use it for! If you want quality wood, it does cost more. You could also contact a cabinet shop and ask where they get their cabinet grade ply from.

For a CNC you don't need expensive S4S from a box store (HD, Lowes). Search on the web for a local hardwood supplier or mill where you can get rough cut wood of higher quality substantially cheaper. Even if you don't have a jointer and thickness planer you can use an endmill and surfacing bit on your CNC to do the same jobs and if you're doing 3D work it doesn't matter anyway. Local mills often have offcut bins where they have scraps up to a few feet long at lower price that are great for CNC projects too.

Haven't been on here for awhile so Hi everyone. I bought my last two projects wood from Woodworkers Source and have been very happy with their products. So far they have provided 1/4" baltic birch, 4/4 curly maple and 4/4 crazy grain gonalco, all cut to size and perfectly packaged for shipping. I am very happy with the results. woodworkerssource.com or 800-423-2450.

Its a bit of drive but I make a day of it. I get my plywood/MDF at big box stores....

But the nicer woods start going up in price, is there a better place than home Depot. I've got two places that supply nice lumber (walnut, oak, maple, etc.) one of them also carries plywood. They are generally about 65-75% the cost of the big box stores when it comes to plywood pricing. They also supply most of the local cabinet makers. Search "lumber" on google maps around you - you'll have to weed through a bunch of construction supply companies but if there are some of these kinds of suppliers around you, they'll be in that list. You could also contact a local cabinet shop and see where they buy from too.

There is a great store in Savannah, GA called Rugby Architectural Building Products - they supply a lot of cabinet shops, and they have branches in various locations around the country. Luckily, they deliver to Augusta for a flat $20, whether I buy 5 bd ft, or 100. They also have various kinds of hardwood plywood as well. I would see if there is one in your area that can deliver to you. www.rugbyabp.com/

I live in New York, but these guys have a few locations. Atlantic Plywood Co has the best selection, quality, and price I have yet to find. Check them out!

Hi Folks, Just got my AR8 Pro+ machine set up--haven't used it yet, but the Axiom machine is an upgrade of my NWA Piranha FX which I've used a lot, mostly for inlay projects using the Zank V-Inlay Procedure that is described in the user threads at Vectric Forum. My go-to wood source for the male parts of my inlay workpieces is Ocooch Hardwoods in Wisconsin. They carry a very nice variety of precision-milled hardwoods that are actually marketed toward scroll sawyers, but that is also what turns out to be most useful for doing fine inlay work with a CNC router. They ship quickly and reliably.
