Hi,
Just after I broke a 1/8 end mill from Poor secured hold-down clamps, I've been getting Intermittent sounds from the x and y axis. No sounds when traveling manually-- only when running A job.

The noise doesn't seem to be affecting the Performance, but it can't be good. Nothing Obvious is loose on the machine. It's a hobby Series and has been working well for some time.

What is the feed rate of the tool, and what kind of cut are you making?

I was cutting 12guage brass 40/min 25000rpm 0.05mm DOC semicircle outside profile cut when the hold down clamps failed coming back down from a tab, caught the side wall at 1.9mm depth the 1/8"EM bit gouged out a 5mm diameter circle Before I could stop it-- it was pretty horrific.
Now I'm cutting .4mmEM 25000rpm 12guage Brass .635mm wide channels at 12in/min 0.05mm DOC just like I've done a thousand times but its intermittently vibrating and making howling sounds. I can feel the ball screws vibrating on both the x and y axis but the x axis is pretty bad. It does not happen when running it manually though which has me worried.

Did you contact support? I've had similar mishaps but with wood. These cnc machines don't like them. I had to replace the servos on mine and still had some issues. Mine was a different cnc at the time no my AR8.

They were on the other machine. I'm not sure how hard it would be on the AR8. The worse part is routing of the wires. Hopefully that's not your problem.

I assume when you guys say servos you are referring to the stepper motors. The Elite series of Axiom CNC is the only ones with servos. Huge difference between servos and stepper motors. How have you been truing to contact Chad? Each time I have emailed them I have got a reply within 24-48 hours unless it was a weekend or holiday. I dont really have any ideas for a solution except contacting Chad but I wanted to clarify the proper terms so people know exactly what your talking about.

I had an issue once where, while cutting a circular finishing path for a 3d cut, the machine would make an awful noise and I would lose my XY origin, resulting in my finish cut being ruined. After talking with Chad, turned out I had the feed rates too high. Doesn't sound like your case is similar. Have you checked to make sure the bolts are still tight on the ballscrews?

Ok, I've checked the carriages that hold the ball nut and they appear fine externally, everything feels solid until I run a job then starts vibrating it certain directions while some directions of travel make no noise/vibration. And the Z direction is fine. It must have somethinf to do with the previous incident.

I'm guessing I messed up The stepper motor. If so, why would it have no symptoms When traveling manually? ill Try traveling diagonally and see what happens

Setup a program of simple shapes (squares, circles, etc.) and set your z-axis height too high (so it just cuts air). Remove the tooling from the spindle and let the machine move in the various directions at cutting speed to see if you can hone in on exactly where the noise is coming from. Try this with power removed from your spindle if needed to eliminate that noise or variable as well.
