My father is building a new bathroom vanity and was using a jig to cut box joints for the drawer sides and was having all kinds of difficulties getting it to line up right. Close, but just not right on it. He asked if there was any way to do it on the CNC, so I started researching it. I found the Dovetail Widget for Aspire and VCarve Pro. Not a totally closed dovetail, but a very nice joint. Doesn't require anything more than a 1/8" endmill. We made his first drawer tonight. It was 8" x 8" x 4.5" on outside dimensions, 7" x 7" x 4" inside. A small drawer for a tower unit first to see how it did. I had to use a 0.006" allowance when cutting the pins, and it went together like a glove. There are a couple spots where there are through openings (a function of the widget, like where you have to apply fillets, since you can't turn the workpiece to route it on the end like a normal dovetail would be produced), but it looks like they will make pretty good glue reliefs. Can't wait to make all new drawers for my wife's kitchen cabinet remodel.
