I just sold my 3 year old Axiom Pro 2 x 3. I am thinking now to go with the Elite 8 2 X 4 for my home hobby shop. I am also considering adding the Laser attachment to it. Does anyone have experience using this laser? I plan on contacting Chad at Axiom to get an idea of the speed and equivalent wattage compared to my existing laser.
In my hobby shop I have a Rabbit 60 watt laser machine. If I purchase the Axiom laser will I need my Rabbit laser?
Thanks.

The laser available for the Axiom is very low watt. I would keep your 60 watt laser and not spend the extra.

I'm with stevem on this one. I'd love to have a large laser in my inventory of tools and may be adding one in the next year. My needs are based on commercial customers needing products which are best cut with lasers.

With a real CO2 laser there is no reason to consider a laser diode unless you're made of money and running out of ideas on how to waste it. The power of a laser diode is so low that you have VERY slow feed rates and little gradation between high and low levels of burn. With the higher power of a CO2 you get essentially instantaneous heating so it uses frequency modulation to get higher gradation without overburn plus you have a round focus point instead of an ellipse that is 2x on the major axis. The CO2 will also likely be compliant with all the CDRH CFR1040.10 laser regulations while I have yet to find a single laser diode that is fully compliant and legal to sell in the USA.

Thanks folks for your comments. I appreciate it. I am now contemplating keeping my laser and not investing in the Axiom laser attachment. I am going down to Columbus to visit the Axiom people. I live 100 miles away so it is easy for me to get a new machine loaded in my trailer.

If you end up deciding to get rid of the CO2 you should post it here on this forum as people might be interested in it.
