Had some time waiting for a long 4:20 cut to run so I whipped together a 3 drawer "toolbox" for my CNC...decided that since it was for the CNC I'd have to do part of it with the CNC so I tried my 1st "coffee and CA" inlay ;-p Not perfect but good enough to dress it up a bit and help keep my already growing collection of bits and "stuff" (kind of) sorted...

That is excellent! Simple and functional. Great job. I got the Axiom tool box simply because I didn't want to spend the time to make one.

Thanks...I'm cheap so I rationalized that if I built it myself I could spend the $600 or whatever on more bits and play materials ;-P

Good job. How do you store the bits in the drawer?

Good job. How do you store the bits in the drawer? Thanks Guys... Dick...I'm working on a layout for that now...keep drawing up versions trying to allow for possibilities (more bits ;-) 15x18 interior space in the drawers so there's room for a few...

Here is what I worked out - quick and dirty - but it does the job. Next time I will put the !/4" bits closer together.

That's the basic idea but being a bit anal I'm thinking groups (1/8", 1/4" & 1/2") and sub-groups within those (EM, BN, V-bit, Specialty)...with room for labels/engraved names ;-) figured why not...it's a good exercise in V Carve layout and cutting something different...We'll see what happens... Same pattern I have always followed: Shoot for the Sun and be happy when you land on the Moon ;-)

Don't know if you had seen this or if you're interested but I ran across this tutorial (with files) of a nice drawer based bit holder...looks like a good place to start...easy to customize, quick to cut... I can see adding a row of 1/4 or 1/2" holes to accommodate the larger bits/cutters and a wider tray at the bottom for the wrenches etc... Have fun portal.vectric.com/p/peterparfitt%7Ccasestudy1519ParfittCNCToolTray.crv (213.5 KB)

I saw that also but I figured it would be easier to pick the bits out vertically without trying to pluck them out with your fingernails. So far it works great but I might add some 1/4" holes for more bits.

So far it works great but I might add some 1/4" holes for more bits. He solved that problem on the top row and ignored it on the bottom 1/2" row...easy enough to fix...I'm going to give it a shot this afternoon and combine it with your idea and see what I come up with...could be it'll just be more sawdust but at least it'll be more spindle time... Mind if I email you a 3d file I'm struggling with for some pointers / ideas? I can't seem to get it below 40+ hours and it's not that big (8x15) or complicated...kind of brain locked at this point...
