Well finally got to make my 1st semi-serious cut on my new A8+ today...and I'm very encouraged ;-) It's the Magnolia "3d" from the V-Carve tutorials...Doug Fir (pretty soft) at around 10" x 10"...1/4" end mill rough and profile and 1/8 BallNose finish at a 10% stepover...total run time of 2:15 hrs...I'm thinking the fuzzies are a byproduct of the soft fir. Despite making a number of mistakes in settings and forgetting to check others altogether I'm pretty happy with my 1st attempt to cut using a CNC... I'm looking forward to getting beyond the "paint by numbers" stage though I realize how important it is... I be happy ;-) Attachments:

In a couple of week you'll be way past "The Fumbles". Excellent first run. New machine, gotta get used to it...

Thanks...Getting used to a new toy (errr tool ;-) is always equal parts anxiety and excitement...the immediate feedback you get from the CNC is encouraging even when you're baffled...Hopefully I'll get through this stage intact ;-p

My biggest goof when I first started was I kept forgetting to reset the Z height when I changed bits - either cut air or crashed into my part. Glad I'm mostly done with that (don't want to curse myself) :-D
