I took delivery of my AR8 Pro+ yesterday. Now after my research I knew these where well made units and that owners like them but as I started to open boxes all I can say is WOW!!! I figured the stand was just going to be your average sheet metal type of stuff but I was way way wrong. I could park my truck on this thing. I promptly got the stand together and other than having to run a tap through some of the holes to clear out powder coat it went well. I had to wait for help to get the CNC on the stand unfortunately. When help arrived it was much less than I had hopped. So I rigged up a 4:1 pulley system and that made it so I could do some lifting even with my bad back. All my firefighter training comes in handy even though I am retired from it now. Now I am almost ready to get it running except I need to run a new 220V line for it. Ill do that tomorrow and get the dust collection going too. I am very impressed with this thing so far and so is my wife. When she says it looks like it was worth the price it makes me feel good.

BigMoose, glad you have the AR8 Pro almost completely setup. I bought mine before Christmas and am waiting for some remodeling work to get it into the house and to have 220v power for it. I still have my CNC Shark if I need to cut something. My wife said the same thing when we went and looked at the Axiom. Actually she had the checkbook out and writing the check before I even said Yes to it. You may want to consider the training Axiom has scheduled for February.

I just dont know if it is in the budget. That is funny about your wife writing the check before you even said yes.

BigMoose: Considering you just spent over $7,000 on a new machine, a few hundred bucks for training seems like a great deal. You will be spending hundreds for software and router bits as well as many hours trying to figure out what you are doing. It's just my 2 cents, but if you are just starting out and know very little, the training will make life easier.

I have some cad/cam experiance so at least I have that going.

There also many online classes for you. The biggest challenge is learning how the machine works. Vectric has some great tutorials on using their software and that is all free. Also I would suggest just cutting air to make sure the machine is doing want you want it to do. Legacy CNC also has some really good tutorials as well and they are also free.

BigMoose, where are you? There may be a forum member closer to you than Axiom who would be willing to let you visit for an afternoon and see what they do. You are welcome to stop by my shop in Augusta, GA if you're anywhere near.

While she's in a happy machine spending mood, make her something with it then tell her you need some new bits for it and go shopping with her support.
