Just got a new AR8-pro and set it up yesterday. I tried my first project by making a sign with a 90 degree v-bit using the Aspire software that I got along with the machine. what post processor do I choose from the list of
so many choices. I tried the Axiom HHC CNC from the pull down menu but each time I tried to run the program the tool went to the correct starting point and just buried itself in the wood. I double checked and the starting point is the top of
the project board not the bed. Am I using the correct post processor or should I be choosing a different one?

You are using the correct post processor! I would recheck to make sure you are setting your tool height to the top of the board and not the bottom. It sounds like that is the problem.

that was the first thing I checked. Since I posted this it hit me that I created the project in inches and that PP is in mm. That is probably the issue. I will try tomorrow. I hope I don't have to start thinking in millimeters.

That isn't the problem. The machine converts mm to inches for you. When I cut a 2" circle, it will measure the 2" after the cut. There must be something else in your setup that is making the bit plunge. If using a V-bit to cut vectors, the start depth should be set a zero. Use the V carve engraving tool path for that. The software will make the appropriate depth of cut. You can set the flat depth to make a deeper cut if you want. Give that a try tomorrow. If you are using a V bit to just cut a grove, then you could use the profile cut and then set your cut depth to whatever you want it to be.

You can draw in inches or millimeters without a problem.

Well, no joy! No matter what I tried the tool plunged into the material after traveling to the start coordinates. I checked and rechecked many times. my safe Z is set to .5 and Z is set to top of material. Tool will not move up to safe Z when the program starts. I used Aspire and Artcam. I just acquired Aspire but I am pretty familiar with how Artcam works. I tried the Axiom post processor and I tried the Laguna IQ HHC post processor. Probably the same thing. Also noticed that Powermatic model master used .mmg. I am thinking a machine setting is out of whack.

If you're using the standard round blue aluminum puck, it should be set to approximately 25.4 (1 inch, but entered in mm, not inches).
