How would you approach a large picture frame ??

A lady my wife works with asked if I could build a custom picture frame for her father who just lost his wife (her mother) 
The actual picture is 16 x 20 and they are wanting some custom engraving on the frame borders.
The attached picture shows a sample I created that the family likes .. 

So here is the question. How would you approach building and engraving a frame that is 22 x 26 (outside dimensions)?
The challenges are the size, there needs to be a relief in the back for glass, the picture and a back
how to hold it etc etc .. 

I have seen some of the work that has come out of this and the Vectric forums.
I know there is some real talent out there and I would be a fool if I thought I had the only solution to a project. 

I have learned as I age that realizing you don't know as much as you think you do opens doors to learning and knowledge that were closed by arrogance.

So I hope we can open a dialog and share some ideas on how to approach this project.

If you are looking at a similar project .. what are your thoughts
If have already done this .. how did you do it and what (if anything) would you do differently.

Is the frame as flat as it looks? What size CNC machine do you have? If your machine can handle the dimensions, I would think it would be a cakewalk.

Yes the frame is flat.
I have an Axiom Pro 8

Since the entire frame will fit on the bed, each side can be carved in one pass. Some options:

1. Carve the entire front as a single project. Since you have Vcarve, you can cut the hole for the picture, and even add some edge adornments with a Moulding Toolpath.

Now add the back panel cuts with a small hand router.

2. Do same as (1.), but do a double sided carve and carve the back panel.

May I suggest that you use a "Puzzle Joint" for the corners,,,,just to add something unique.
