I built a boot rack for a friend of mine and finished it before I got my router. I already had planned what I wanted to do, and it turned out even better than I expected, and super easy, too. I practiced on a couple of scrap pieces first, and discovered that the inlay can't be the same size as the pocket, because it won't fit. I broke my first test inlay trying to get it into the pocket. There's a box called "Pocket Allowance" that lets you make the pocket bigger by whatever amount you choose. I chose .01, and it worked out fine. A little loose, but not much. Alternatively, I could have chosen the "Allowance Offset" for the inlay to make it a little smaller. I also left the inlay sticking up a little, maybe 1/32" so I could run it through the drum sander and make it smooth.
