Excellent work and great photography also! Curious to know how you managed material hold down. I suspect maybe CA glue and painter's tape?? Certainly a great teaching project to broaden one's ability with both software and machine. Were the inlays VCarve inlays or something else?

I machined it from a rectangular block to make the two-sided orientation easier. I used the Axiom lateral clamps to hold everything in place, with the center point set as my origin. I did CA/tape the second side (machining the dome) of the lid down also just for security when the lid separated.
And yes, the triangles were done with the VCarve inlay technique. I've tried several different VCarve settings over the years with mixed results. I've finally settled on this:
Female - .2" flat depth Male - .15" Start depth, .05" flat depth 60 degree V bit.
Seems to work very well every time I've tried it.
