hello all, new to this forum but no cnc routers, i have been using a bobs cnc evo 5 for some time with decent results and am enjoying the machine even with the limitations it has being belt driven, anyway a iconic 8 came my way that was purchased and used twice so i grabbed it, 2x4 bed on the axiom. well i thought the richauto pendant would make life easier than going through running ugs like i do with the evolution 5. i cannot get the pendant to run files and i have tried multiple post processors settings, downloaded and added the axiom post processor and still nothing, i can get the all axis to move and jog with the pendant, home set zero position but as soon as i try to run a file i hit a brick wall and that's the end of that and try again with another post processor. I'm using aspire, 1 gb usb thumb drive, fat32 formatted. if anyone can point me in the right direction with this axiom iconic i would be grateful and hope to become a very active member in this forum but first have to learn the machine a little more. i have been wanting a axiom for some time and now i own one im chomping at the bit wanting to get it runnin but im probably going to have to keep running the evolution for a little more time until i get this figured out. thank you all,
mark k

Hi Mark, I use an AR8 pro v5 and I’m not sure of the finer point differences from the Iconic series. You don’t mention which post processor you use other than calling it the “Axiom post processor”. I am new to the axiom but I will take a stab at helping and likely there will be some more experienced users chime in. The post processor I believe should be the Axiom HHC CNC(mm)(*.mmg) … same as my AR8 Assuming that is the one you are using, are you locating your file on the USB stick? When you select it by pressing the Origin/OK key are you pressing the Origin/OK key a second time to actually command it to start? What does the controller say or do?

I have the iconic8 and it's been a love hate relationship. The more I learn about it the more I come to love it. Tell me how you go from Aspire to your pendant first.

Welcome to the forums. As the other guys have said, specifics will help us provide better advice: - What post processor (exactly) are you using in Aspire?
- What happens when you get to the controller and plug in your USB drive? Do you see the cut file(s) when you go to run them, or do you not get that far?
- If you are able to try to run the file, what error do you receive (what is written on the controller screen when the failure occurs)?
I have an older Axiom machine, but still use a RichAuto controller. My basic steps from Aspire are as follows: - Generate my paths and save:
You likely are familiar with all of this already, but I'll go over it just in case. About halfway down the 'save' "screen" there's a dropdown option for "Machine". Make sure your Axiom Iconic is selected there and the post processor should be the "Axiom HHC CNC(mm)(*.mmg)" post processor. Go ahead and save the file(s).
- Move the file(s) to my USB drive:
Allow for adequate time for the files to properly transfer. I usually wait 10-15 seconds as sometimes Windows will show that the files have transferred, but they are not completely finished writing for a few seconds. If you remove the drive before this, the files will be incomplete and can cause problems when you try to run them on the CNC machine.
- Plug the USB drive into the RichAuto controller:
My controller takes another 10-15 seconds to recognize the drive has been inserted, so I'll plug it in, do a final check on my workpiece, hold-downs, etc., then come back to the controller.
- Set my workpiece origin:
If you're not sure how to do this on this machine, just ask.
- Run the cut program:
I press the green 'run' button, scroll to 'udisk' and press the yellow 'ok' button. This should show the files on USB drive; I scroll to the cut file I want and press the yellow 'ok' button again. This will show some final speeds for each axis to run the cut file at; simply hit the yellow 'ok' button once more and the cut program should start or give an error at that point.
Is this roughly the process you're using? Again, it may be slightly different as my machine is older.

thank you all for the replies so far, as stated above i never got any notifications i had responses. i finally got the my axiom running when i save the files under the axiom save file in aspire and making wood chips pretty well. i love the machine so far but keep getting the random er-04 code, checked the unit is grounded correct but man is that spindle sensitive and i cant turn my back through fear of the the error code popping up and shutting down the spindle but the cnc keeps and trucking along with the er-04 code present so im finding myself creating a break and saving the files and shutting it down if i have to leave it for even 2 mins. i read somewhere that this may be a setting in vfd but i cant find that same post again explaining in detail how to deal with the er-04 code. im impressed with the power this cnc has so far.

You really should call Axiom and have them help you through this issue. Their support is very good. If your problem is the VFD, they'll want to know what VFD you have. Mine has the Siemens, but the VFD can be different even in the same model. I'd been having a repeated spindle error problem. I called and talked to Austin and he sent a very helpful email that let me fix the problem. But changing parameters on a VFD can be tedious and there's the potential to make things worse if you get it wrong. Hence the advice to call Axiom.

thank you all for the replies, yes i dont get notifications when i receive a response for posts. so far when logging in though i have have some good reads, i am now on a quest to to either see if i can upgrade my spindle for more POWER or what steps are involved. i managed to mount a 1.5kw spindle to my bobs cnc with aluminum clamps etc and it made a world of difference but i also dont want to go deep into another rabbit hole on the axiom upgrading the spindle. a phone call may be needed with axiom real soon to speak about options.
