Anybody have experience with a company that will replace spindle bearings? My machine is an AR8 with a 2.2KW 7.5Amp 220V 24,000 rpm. My location is Virginia.
I don't, unfortunately.
However, in my experience, it's often a similar price to just replace the entire spindle. With the automation of much of the manufacturing process, the cost to repair an item in the US is now comparable to just buying a new one (especially once you factor in time spent looking for someone to perform the work, shipping or driving the item to them, waiting for the repair work to be completed, and then retrieving the item).
That's assuming the work was done as it should and you don't have further issues from the botched repair work.
I agree that something that simple should be cheaper and easier to fix, but I don't think that's the world we live in anymore unless you plan to do the work yourself.
If my memory serves me, a brand new spindle of that size is around $600 before shipping from Axiom. I would just purchase a new one and be done with it.
If the old spindle is still usable, you could try selling it (disclosing the worn bearings to any potential buyers) to recoup some of the loss on the new one.
