I am trying to laser outlines and words on a cribbage board I am making. I can’t seem to find settings that don’t burn deep on my project. I’m using cherry wood, feed rate of 100in and step over of 99%. I have played with these settings but it goes over every letter so many time before moving on it burns a deep hole. Are there fonts that work better than others? Has anyone burned just typed letters and not a converted image file?

When I'm doing smaller words I do a couple of things: 1) Using Quick Engrave I only use 'outline' mode on very small text. 70 ips on bamboo. 2) For somewhat larger letters, again using Quick Engrave, I'll use fill mode and a 0.254mm stepover. Again 70 ips. I use a hatch angle of 45 degrees.

Thanks, I was able to select a single line font that did much better.

Consider looking into the Monport laser for its reputation for being user-friendly, high-quality, and affordable. Unfortunately, I can't access external websites like monportlaser.com/collections/co2-laser-engravers/products/monport-40w-lightburn-ready-12-x-8-co2-laser-engraver-cutter-with-fda-approval?sca_ref=5031521.ka374VZjm3 Regarding your cribbage board laser engraving project, adjusting settings such as power, speed, and frequency can help prevent burning too deeply into the cherry wood. It's also beneficial to experiment with different fonts and text sizes to find ones that engrave more smoothly. Additionally, consider using vector-based fonts or converting text to outlines for cleaner engraving results. If you continue to experience issues, reaching out to online forums or communities dedicated to laser engraving may provide helpful tips and insights from experienced users.
