I imported this model into a file and proceeded to carve it today. Roughing pass was fine. First finish cut was fine. Final finish cut was about 1.2 hrs and was going fine. I was working on something else in the shop when I looked up and saw the machine was finished so I walked over and saw the "finished" message at the bottom of the screen but when I looked at the carving obviously something went wrong along the way. I have hearing protection on so did not hear anything that caused me to look up. The cut appears to be at the bottom of the model but it only goes about 98%across the raised portion of the model at a constant Z depth then pops up not cutting the last 1/8" of raised area. Bit did not seem to be loose or have dropped down. Also if bit moved I would think that there would be more of the carving messed up after it moved unless it literally did it at the end of the program. I went back and watched a slow motion simulation of the toolpath in vcarve pro and it seemed to run fine. Any comments? I went back and re did the import and created a new file which is cutting now so we will see how it does.

That stinks! Without actually seeing your file, my guess is that your Safe Z heights in the Material Setup form are incorrect.

Safe Z was set at .200 above material surface for this carve. The fact that it appears to have malfunctioned on one cut only out of the many hundreds of fast z cuts seems to me to be a "glitch". My Ar8 seemed to be kind of wonky yesterday. One time odd noise from control box that went away after about 20 seconds. Then I had multiple issues with the R18 controller like not recognizing thumb drive or a particular file on a thumb drive. then it was freezing even when I tried to cut after copying file to pendant. Froze up while "checking file" or reading flash drive. Pretty frustrating day with my new machine.
I erase all files from thumb drive and then went in and started all new vcarve file with the model and came back out to try again. Once I got past the controller issues everything cut fine and I was able to finish my project.
Here is the final item.
