Local AXIOM users

All, I just joined the AXIOM forum. I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing if I come up with something I think might benefit other AXIOM cnc users.

If any of you live in the Denver area I would like to make your acquaintance and share knowledge specific to the AXIOM Pro 5 machine. If you are interested to share information about using the AXIOM machine, please post a reply to me and we can exchange location information.

I have just begun to use my AXIOM Pro 5 AR-6 machine. Although I used a NWA CNC Shark for about 10 years before this, I am struggling to learn the specific of properly setting up Gcode from a design I made in Aspire correctly on the machine.

I purchased both the 4.2W laser and the 4rh axis.

My first test using the laser were disappointing, engraving too light, then I discovered the laser fan was not working. JPTech has sent me a replacement laser controller and told me without the fan the laser output power drops to about 30%. I have not yet installed the laser controller. I plan to do that this week.

My first effort to use the 4th axis showed me I do not yet know how to set up my work piece to match the Z-zero in the Aspire G-code. I tried to run the Vectric rounding gadget but the bit cut 1/2" deeper than just rounding my square stock. I followed the instructions in the Vectric rounding gadget tutorial exactly so I conclude I do not yet know how to set the Z-zero on the machine. I st the Z-zero in both the Aspire design and on the machine to be the axis of the cylinder, 75mm above the table.

I would appreciate guidance and I would like to meet any AXIOM users in the Denver area.

Wayne, with the 4th Axis...you may need to adjust the safe height which is a parameter within the controller.

The safe height can effect how high the machine will allow the Z-axis to raise during an operation. Is it override portions of the g-code...if set too low (default is often 40mm) it can result in the first pass being far too deep or it can prevent the bit from raising out of the material completely when moving to a new location.


If you go into the controller MENU and select the Machine Setup...you should see Safe HeIght as a option. Once selected, the setting will be displayed.

Highlight this setting and press the Delete button.

Then enter a new setting (75mm) is often the recommendation and press OK.

*Once done, press the Stop/Cancel button to exit the MENU one screen at a time.
