This is one of the best things I have done with Aspire and my Axiom machine. Why? Because I searched "Rattleback STL", downloaded a free model, dropped it into Aspire, made coarse and fine toolpaths and an hour later had a Physics-defying toy! it will ONLY spin counter-clockwise. If you try to spin it clockwise, it wobbles and REVERSES COURSE (in the northern Hemisphere). Make your own and amaze your friends. Want to see the physics on how it works?

Made a couple of these a few years back - on a lath with a router on a pivot to get the bottom shape. Then weighted the opposing corners to get the required imbalance. Very intriguing motion when you spin it. Could you please send me the STL file that you used - would like to do a CNC one and would be nice to start with a file that I know works.
Thank you
Doug

Hey Doug, It's about 15 mB which the forum frowns on, but google search rattleback stl and you will get several good choices. VERY simple to import, scale and cut. Minimal sanding and because it's out of the semi-perfection of your CNC, you won't need to add additional weight. It just works! Tim

Hi Tim,
Found a couple of STL files - only 36Kb and 1382 KB so hopelfully they work. Thanks for the idea to make them on a CNC
