We've lost the ability to use the puck to set our Z0, we killed a bit yesterday finding out that it no longer works. I ohmed out the puck to the banana plug, we have continuity, so it must be something internal to the machine.
Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?

jroetz,
Please call or email the support team. This sounds like a simple connection issue, but there can be multiple reasons for this.

Take the side off of the gantry and look inside there. I had a loose connection inside (bolt holding wiring came loose) and had to tighten it for a good connection. Some people have basically re-built the whole system since the way it comes out of the factory is questionable (bad connections, cheap wiring, etc). I don't use mine anymore since I don't trust it (lost 3 bits in one day due to intermittent wiring).

Allan I opened it up, the nut holding the ring lug to the banana plug came loose the wire was laying in the bottom of the tray. I cut the ring lug off and soldered the wire to the plug, shouldn't be an issue going forward.

I have had to tighten a bunch of loose bolts on my machines (I have an AR4+Pro and AR8+Pro), and it amazes me that they can leave the factory/warehouse like that. Being told that it's "normal" for nuts/bolts to come loose on the journey from factory to end-user is a little suspect, and doesn't inspire a lot of confidence (I found an errant bolt in my shipping box for my AR4, and it took me quite a while to figure out where it came from (the harness under the machine that holds the wiring: the bolt was supposed to be holding it secure, and I only figured it out when I looked under the machine and saw the harness dangling down. Lucky I didn't get it caught when the gantry moved around.). I stopped using the puck after destroying 3 bits in one day (loose/intermittent connection inside the gantry) and have heard many stories of a similar nature. Allan

I had pushed for more use of loctite over the years...however in my experience with material expansion and the extreme amount of vibration that the machine experience with shipping around the world, there is really little that can be done to prevent bolts from loosening over time.
The amount of vibration seen just from the time spent in a train car is very high.
I can't speak to the reasons that the loctite is not seen on all hardware...but I know that since many of the bolts are treading into aluminum, they can't be torqued enough that material expansion and vibration will not allow them to loosen eventually.
