So I am in the process of inlaying and engraving the Chicago Bears "C" and after the Inlay I remounted the work piece to find I had forgot to put a hard stop in the Y axis. As you can imagine the outline around the "C" didn't line up. So instead of risking it and potentially scrapping the part I put oramask over the "C" and loaded a sharpie into the spindle. I ran a profile pass around the "C" using the sharpie at 0 rpm then adjusted my Y axis accordingly.
I wanted to share this because it saved me a lot of time and frustration. Hopefully this video link works.

Nice idea. I never thought that the pin would fit right the spindle. If you remember, you can put a couple of dimples in the workpiece. Easy accurately line up. More accurate, a couple of dowel holes.

it took a couple wraps of electrical tape to fit the Pen into the 1/2 collet. Usually I would have 3/8 dowels at X and Y to stop on but for some strange reason I used a pencil line on the first round.

This is very interesting..."Builds With Brian" went to a heck of a lot of trouble to build a bracket to hold Sharpies to draw on T-Shirts and posters. I'm thinking his had a spring to keep the pressure constant, but this is a great hack if you're doing something small and one off.
