Is it possible to just purchase the Axiom Pro spindle mount and purchase an aftermarket spindle to attach to the Axiom basic? The main reason I didn't go with the pro was because the 220v requirement. At some point I may want to put on a 110v spindle on the basic.

You can buy the Axiom spindle mount directly from Axiom. The size is 80 mm, so when you get a spindle, make sure it's diameter is 80 mm.

There are two general issues...first the mount on the machine is designed for a 3.5" router motor, so a custom bushing will be needed or a replacement mount.
Second is that the machine is not wired for a spindle, so what ever spindle you use will require an external VFD to control RPM as well as its own power supply.

The Powermatic dust shoe has a sleeve that supports using an 80mm spindle in place of a regular router. You won't be able to control the speed of the spindle through the machine and will have to do it manually, along with a coolant system of some sort.
