I just received my Axiom AR8 PRO V5 and have it assembled(only a minor backache). While trying to design a simple VCarve sign using Vcarve Pro V10 I tried to save the toolpath and started searching for a post processor. The only one I can find in VCarve Pro is AxiomHHCCNC(mm)(*.mmg). Being a novice at CNC and cautious I assume this is only for metric dimensions so I started looking to add another post processor. I was very confused when the downloads on the Axiom site were HTML files. Question is what post processor do I add to Vcarve Pro to make sure that transfer the proper info to the USB drive to install in the hand held controller and where can I download it from. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Axiom mmg file that you reference is the one to use. The machine cuts in mm, regardless of the design units used.

as jroetz said: We in the US, use inches and the machines will convert inches to mm. I do believe that all cnc machines use mm and the control software will convert inches to mm. The mmg file is the one to use!

Thanks for the info. Now where do I get the post processor for the 4th Axis?

I actually tried to download from this page before I asked for help on the forum. When I downloaded the file it was a .html file. If I add the .html file to Vcarve will it work? I did follow jroetz and stevem recommendation and used the .mmg file and it works. I haven't installed the 4th axis yet but am wondering what post processor to use for it. Thanks everyone for all the help. I will master this even if it takes a few years.

Right click on the link. It might show .txt on the end of the file after downloading. Delete the .txt until the text looks like the following: Axiom_HHC_4TH.PP then place in your processor folder.

you need to change the .extension to ".pp" open with file with note pad, then save as. select all files from the drop down then add ".pp" to the file name and save

This is an old post and I'm not sure I understood the answer correctly. If I design in V Carve Pro in inches, can I save it via the Axiom HHC CNC (mm) post processor and run correctly. I am not very fluent with metric and would rather design in inches if possible. (I feel I am getting to old to learn how to speak good metric) I have just now run the spoil board tool path and have a 1st project ready to try after waiting for 2 1/2 year for the intimidation factor to settle down. If I couldn't get my mind into it, I didn't want to jump in and mess up the machine. I know the Nextwave Shark HD they stressed to use the "inch" post processor, which I did, but never new what would happen if I didn't. The Axiom is quite a step up from the Shark that I have been using for 12 years.

Yes you can. Whether you design in metric or imperial, the .mmg file the Axiom runs is in metric.
You can't "mess up the machine". Trust me, you really can't. I've done my best with stupid stuff and the worst thing that has happened is a couple blown fuses. There is no shame in running a program without a bit in the spindle or with the bit running an inch above the material. It's reassuring to see how everything is working before you run something new for the first time.

My original white Shark still gets some use and it has always been a very reliable machine. Most projects are done now on my Axiom. I really like the Axiom. It has features that prevent a lot of common mistakes from happening. We are a creative group and can find new challenges. You will also find excellent support here from members and directly from Axiom. Bob

Thanks for the encouragement and reassurance. I will give a new technique a try this afternoon. I am going to attempt a 2 level text sign. Nothing new or hard, but it is my first attempt after watching a couple of youtubes on the subject.... helping me to build courage enough to use the Axiom. I'm the same way about my SawStop. Almost afraid to saw anything, afraid I might hit a nail or have wet wood that will trigger the brake. Part of it was waiting for time to run the 220v line for power too. Got several REALLY nice pieces of machinery now after the less expensive counterpart for years and just don't want to do something stupid.... like not read and understand the manual before I dive in. I rarely read manuals and instructions but the stakes are higher now. LOL I have been operating the Nextwave Shark for 12 years.... you would have thought I would have developed more courage by now! ha ha ha

Hi Bob, I thought that was you. I saw your Icon and name and it seemed very familiar. In fact I think I reached out to you a couple years ago and discussed the Axiom machines. I remember the good times on the Shark Forum and the work on one of the Beta teams that we shared. I was finally able to convince myself that not only did I need something better, but I deserved it. I have had very little trouble with my machine... the very first model of the Shark HD.... which is newer than your "white" Shark. I'm not sure that both of them deserve to be in a museum, but likewise mine has been a work horse and made enough money to justify an Axiom. Thanks for the response, assurance and vote of confidence. I just felt like I needed someone to hold my hand as I make this very monumental step for me. Looking forward to talking with you more. Roger

Well, I made it through my first carve on the new machine. Who said you can't teach old Eagles, new tricks. LOL Everything went very smooth and although I had never done this project before (mainly from a lack of interest) I learned it from a teacher on YouTube and it motivated me to get moving (along with having the time to read the Axiom manual which I had been delaying for a couple of years. Thank You grossmsj and my old acquaintance Bob, from my Nextwave Shark Forum days for the nudge to push me off the cliff I was standing at the edge of. I love this machine, and it makes me wonder why it took me so long to get one. SO MANY of the headaches of the Shark machines have disappeared with this step up. One of the biggest amazement is that I didn't know that cutting wood sounded like that..... My Porter Cable 890 router had always drowned out the sound of the work being done. This spindle is sooooo quiet, all I hear is the actual bit cutting sound from the wood. Just a couple minutes more sanding the fuzzy edges and it will be ready to finish.

Very cool, and nicely done! It is a very capable and robust machine.
