I have bought usb drives especially for this Pro 8 and sometimes it recognizes them and sometimes it doesn't. For instance last week I was able to cut something. Hubby installed new dust catcher and said can you cut something and see if it is working. I put the usb drive in and went to the files and it says there are no files there. I just used this file last week. Before you say there is lots of info about this I am not finding it. I have searched thumb drive, I have searched usb etc.. What is the key to the USB working on this machine. I am going to the class this week and maybe they can show me a trick I dont know.

The only ones I use are 2-4 gig Sandisk. For some reason if you use a drive larger than 4 gig, they don't seem to work all the time. I bought a 4 pack from Amazon. Not that expensive.

Here too,had the same problem till I dropped down to 4- 16 GB SanDisk. Some of the older off the shelf sticks will work ,and try to always get one that hve light to show you it is working. Good Luck

A quick search on that topic will yield quite a few hits. Bottom line: Smaller seems to work better.
In fact, I use several (old) sticks between 128MB and 2GB. Had to toss a few of them before I ended up with a handful that seem to be working reliably.
Once you get to Columbus, Chad may have suggestions (and perhaps a drive) for you...

Here's a thought: maybe Axiom should ship each machine that needs the USB stick with one that has been tested at the factory. It is BS that people have to rummage at the clearance bin at Walmart, Staples, etc to find a memory stick that works on this particular piece of equipment. Getting a very expensive piece of equipment and then thinking it doesn't work with a BRAND NEW memory stick is pretty frustrating, and makes people wonder WTF is wrong with this thing. This comes up with pretty much everybody that buys a machine from Axiom (that perhaps didn't read the forum before hand). I would be hardpressed to recommend Axiom to anybody (and I have 2 Axiom CNC machines, an AR4+ and an AR8+) because of the Mickey Mouse nature of some of the issues that come up (tape on LED light strips that is useless; poor quality control on rotary/4th axis attachment; couplers that disintegrate; coolant reservoir leaking). Yeah, yeah... Call Chad and he'll send the new part right away. That helps a ton when you've got a deadline to meet (worst case scenario) or just want to make some expensive sawdust.

What is the key to the USB working on this machine. I am going to the class this week and maybe they can show me a trick I dont know. As an aside, I have had something similar happen: I was using a memory stick that I KNEW worked (i.e I had used it many, many times) and I put it into the controller and it said that there were no files on it. I thought that it was odd, and I double checked my USB stick in my computer, and there were indeed files on it. I went back to the CNC and re-inserted it, and it still said there were no files on it. With a computer, when in doubt... re-boot! I restarted the CNC and low and behold, it now saw the files. So, moral of the story is: if it is a memory stick that has worked in the past and it isn't being recognized (it says no files are on it), reboot (shut off CNC and restart) and try again.

I purchased Aspire with my machine. Axiom shipped me both the Aspire product (that comes in a box on a memory stick) and a separate "market" memory stick. Brand name SP (Silicon-Power.com) with an 8 gig capacity. The latter packaging had been "clearly opened". Axiom had opened it to add the spoilboard surfacing program specific to my Elite AR 16 (it was also preloaded on the HUST controller when that arrived with the machine).
I had one small issue on my second project. I opened the USB stick with the controller and was unable to copy the files (which were visible) to the SD (in the HUST controller). When I went back to the USB, it appeared that there were no files on it. I simply re-booted the machine and there they were...everything transferred over and ran perfectly.
Keep in mind the following: When naming your files in the post-processor/save portion of Aspire (and presumably other products), be sure and keep your file names limited to 6 characters or less. I had seven files to run on a project and all were "kind of" renamed to something similar to what I had saved them as before I loaded them on the stick. In 6 of the 7 files, the first word exceeded the limit. In the 7th file, the first word was "Grape". None of the first 6 files would read or transfer from the stick to the controller (got a drive error message). The 7th came across named "Grape2". It transferred just fine. I had put all of them in a subfolder on the stick and the subfolder was visible and "opened" on command. The files were all visible. I went back and resaved the postprocessor files with shorter names (directly to the stick instead of "parking" them in my "Download" folder and then cut/pasting them to the stick without using a subfolder. They all ran perfectly.
Hopefully, some of this may be of some help to someone. I've noted in prior threads that "bigger" USB sticks (>4 gig) "won't work". I don't know if that is specific to smaller machines (the Elite AR-16 uses a completely different controller system and servo drives), but it's clearly not a "universal" problem with all Axiom machines since this is an 8 gb drive.

Over time if you keep using the USB port on the handheld the connection will become intermittent. In order to save the USB port on the handheld I use a USB extension cable. This way you leave the extender attached to the handheld and do all your plugging on the extender not the handheld. I do the same on my PC.
