While I was inserting the usb stick into the RichAuto B581E1 it had a shock of static electricity. Now it won’t read the usb stick. Have rebooted several times, have tried using a new usb stick. Has anyone else had this happen? What’s the fix?

Sorry, I just noticed your post since I'm having an issue with my system and I'm looking to see if anyone has the same issue. Anyway, you probably need to check that your outlet is grounded properly. I had an issue with my system not being grounded properly to my dust collection system and ran a wire from the spindle through the dust collection hose and then connected to the grounding screw on the dust collector. I really need to drive a grounding rod in the ground just outside the shop near the cnc and connect the grounding wires to it. Static is nasty and is a royal pain with cnc machines. My first machine had a wiring fire while I briefly stepped out of the shop. My wife heard the change in the cnc sound and told me about it. Since then I've had my house electrical system upgraded.

Having this problem now. Richauto B581E1 Several times I had the static electricity while inserting the usb stick. Will not recognize the usb. Have powered off still not working. Powered off and unplugged from the wall for 1 min. and it still didn't work. But when I powered off, unplugged, waited 1 min. then plugged in the usb before plugging in the wall and powering up, all worked fine. Was able to access my tool paths and run the programs. But if I remove the usb and then plug it in again it will not recognize the usb. It is looking like I dont need to unplug from the wall. As long as I have the usb plugged in before turning the machine on it is working. This is still not exceptable. Still need a fix.

Is this a new machine or new to you? How long have you had it and been using it? Do you have carpet on the floor?

Static can be a real bear for CNC controllers. It's worse in the winter due to low humidity. I second savannahdan's recommendations.
1. Run a bare copper wire from the dust shoe up through the collector hose to ground, e.g. metal dust pipe, if that's what you're using. Otherwise, run it all the way to a known ground. 2. Run a copper ground wire to a grounding rod near the router.

Thanks for your input. I do have grounding wires but I will double check that they are good. I have had the machine for over 2 years. I was doing several cuts and removed the usb and when I reinserted the usb it would not recognize that it was there.I did verify that just turning the machine off and plugging in the usb before I turn it back on, it will recognize the usb and work just fine. But something in the controller is still bad.

Talked to Axiom. They had me install files for (Firmware) and (Restore Data) which they sent to me. This didn't help. They are saying that i need to plug in the usb before I turn on the machine, and it is working now if I do that. But I have never done it that way before. Then they said to load the toolpath to the internal memory. I did this but that dosen't help if I need to change a tool path, take out the usb and reinsert it. I have to power off and on every time. I do a lot of one-offs and so there is a lot of trial and error. Dose anyone else have to plug the usb in before the machine is turned on?? I will stop whinning for now.

The reason I ask how long you had been using the machine is that early on I thought I had a problem. Like you I would either want to generate a job and add it to the stick or redo a job that was not quite right. I pulled the usb out with machine on but not actively cutting. Make my changes and put it back in. Press run and it couldn’t find the usb stick. My problem was that I didn’t realize that it had to read the stick before it could use it. Fortunately the stick ai use has a little led in the end of it that blinks when it is being read or written to. I realized that if I plug it in and wait for it to read the stick (about 5 sec to 20 or 30…. I think depending on how many files it has and maybe how big they are. Once it stops reading, I’m good to go with proceeding to the file I want to load. Key thing also is to never pull the usb stick out while it is actively cutting. I think the controller reads directly from the stick as it is cutting. Thats the purpose for “ejecting” a thumb drive, so it is not pulled out while it is being read or written to, because it can corrupt the file. Not sure that is your problem but it sounded familiar with my early on experiences.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with your Richauto B581E1 controller not recognizing the USB stick properly, especially after experiencing static electricity while inserting it. Despite your attempts to troubleshoot by powering off and unplugging the controller, the problem persists. It's concerning that the controller only recognizes the USB stick when it's plugged in before powering on the machine, indicating a potential hardware or connectivity issue. While your workaround may temporarily resolve the issue, it's understandable that you're seeking a more permanent solution. Given the persistence of the problem, it's advisable to reach out to Monport's customer support for further assistance. They may provide specific troubleshooting steps or recommend repairs to address the root cause of the USB recognition issue, ensuring smoother operation of your laser system. monportlaser.com/collections/co2-laser-engravers/products/monport-40w-lightburn-ready-12-x-8-co2-laser-engraver-cutter-with-fda-approval?sca_ref=5031521.ka374VZjm3
