I have an Iconic 8 and am getting lots of chatter in the x direction only. Movement in the y direction produces no chatter and makes a smooth cut. I was cutting acrylic using a 1/4 inch o-flute bit at 15,000, 135 IPM, DOC 0.12. I was cutting a square and left to right or right to left is no different. I have had the same problem with pine but attributed it to the x direction cut being on end grain. My guess is the Y-axis has some play and is not holding the spindle, allowing the spindle to move (vibrate) in the y- axis direction as the spindle is moving in the x-direction? Before I crawl under the machine (have to remove a couple of cabinets that I built in) and have a better look at the y axis ball screw and shaft and the shaft mounting at each end, I would like to know if this is where the problem most likely is.
I have a pro model, but had a similar symptom. Turned out that the rubber cushion in the flexible shaft coupler on the y axis failed and fell out of the coupler resulting in just a bit of play like that. Replacement was found on amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T2HFSZR

Dude thank you so much for this! I have been having issues with my X axis and when i look really really closely I feel like I see a wobble at the coupler. I am definitely purchasing this to replace it. Thank goodness I decided to be more active on this forum
