Using laser to create photo

I finally got around to installing the laser attachment to my machine. I ran a test run using the quick engraving feature outlined and it came out very nice. I would like to do a photo next. What are the steps to do this? I realize that a black and white photo is best to be imported, but what is the next step. Bitmap tracing? Can I use the photo engraving tool with the laser for the toolpath (when I did try this the tool I created for laser did not show in database). Maybe I need more coffee but just at a stand still. Would someone mind helping out?

If you are referring to the Vectric Laser tool, it is not implemented for the Axiom laser. The Axiom laser can only be controlled 'full on' or 'full off'. The density, therefore, can only be changed by modifying the spindle travel rate (IPM). It's a pretty limited add-on.
