I have an AR*8 Pro 5 using V Crave pro software. Machine was new in December 2020. I get an error message when i insert a usb flash drive saying there are no files in drive. This is staring to happen more and more. I turn machine off. check to make sure there are files on the usb. I have changed flash drives etc. Today i brought a new flahdrive 16gb (smallest I could find) formatted it, but no matter what i did the controller would not read any files that i had just put on it. Suggestions? Help
thanks Ed

try formatting it in FAT, which will give you a smaller partition size.

Ed,
We recommend flash drives that are under 8GB. Please double check that your flash drive is formatted to FAT32 and is a 2.0 4GB or 8GB drive. Newer USB drives come as a 3.0, so please double-check that you are using a 2.0 drive.
Axiom has a 2.0 4GB available on our website if you are struggling to find one. In the past, we have had good luck with the SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Blade USB 2.0 drives, these can be easily found on Amazon.

I purchased a Tuff Max Verbatin 2.0 that I have saved files on but the controller will not read ANYTHING on the usb? I purchased this because it was heavy duty and good for the shop use. I have trouble with other drives that I have been using. Does not read them maybe 1 time out of 15/20.

I have trouble with other drives that I have been using. Does not read them maybe 1 time out of 15/20. Ed Problems with USB drives are most often due to compatibility. It would have little to do with a USB being durable enough for the shop environment and more to due with how well that particular drive type/format is supported by the controller. In this case, only USB2.0 with a FAT32 format is supported. There have been numerous instances where the drive have had to be re-formatted to ensure that they were FAT32. In addition to your drive being larger than the ideal 8GB size, its also likely that its using an ExFat format or another more current type than the recommendation. Other problems revolve around the physical connection between the USB and the handheld. Where the fitment (pin to pin contact), dust/debris and vibration can all play a part. In this case, what you see as the USB port on the controller is actually a removable USB extension. And there is actually a single screw on the back of the controller, in line with that port which when removed completely...the port can be pulled free to reveal an internal USB port. Its not recommended to use that internal master port regularly, but if the external port becomes suspect a short USB cable extension could be used in its place.

Also keep in mind that the file name is limited in character size...if it shows anything at all on the drive, then its being read.
It just may not be showing the full name.
For instance "Profile 1/4inch" would be shortened by the controller to "Profil~1"
