Howdy y'all.
Tomorrow I intend to test out the rotary attachment for the first time. I am going to turn a 22" Cherry dowel, 1.25D". My thought is that the best bit to use will be an *upcut* 1/4" endmill. Is my thinking correct?
I have done some inlays using the down cut because it preserves the top surface. However, on the dowel, will an upcut give a better cut surface?
TIA, CC

I haven't run a side by side comparison of upcut vs downcut but I do primarily use a downcut bit and the surface finish is quite nice.
A raster toolpath with a small stepover will give you the best finish off the rotary. Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you today.
