Hello, I’ve being playing around with some v carve inlay. I’ve watched a number of videos before trying. I’m running a ar16 machine This test was mdf double sided stick tape Amana 45* insert 1/2 shank at 55 ipm 1/8 clearance EM were applicable Pocket- I had set at .25 Flat depth Inlay- I split that .125 start depth and .125 flat. If you see the photos there’s gaps in random places. I didn’t think this was too fast of speed especially with 1/2 shank. Is this still too fast of cutting speed? My depths wrong? Or am I missing something....

Are you attempting a Zank V-bit inlay, or a standard inlay? MDF is not a great choice for material. Too much chip out.

V carve inlay is what I’m trying to do. Mdf is just for trial runs to make sure the depths are right. I’ve already used wood with same issue, I’d prefer to not grow the fire bin excessively😆

I had some problems with both my feed rate being too fast and my bit not being sharp enough, I slowed my feed rate way down (~10 ipm) and got a really sharp 30 degree v bit and that took care of 95% of my problems. Another thing that messed me up was alignment during glue up, if it isn't exactly aligned you will get small gaps even though it might feel right.
