Thank you branson for the idea of a holder for the pendant.
For the Elite machines the holder needs to have some additional features. You can see them in the pictures:
- There is this big round 'thing' (knob) sticking out the back.
- The cable also goes straight out the back.
Most of the pics below are self explanatory but here are some comments on a couple issues:
- The red bracket hanging from the the right front of the machine is nothing more that a holder for the big round knob on the back of the controller. The pendant hangs very loosely in the half moon cutout in the bracket. It is fine if all you are looking for is to not have to lay down the controller somewhere. It is not made for the controller to be operated while hanging there (it is not mounted solid and so you can not push any of the buttons unless holding it with the other hand). Also, it is at a bad height if you wanted to operate it without taking it out of the holder.
Picture 1: Final result. The pendant is held securely and I can operate it (push the buttons) without needing my other hand. Success...! And, thanks to the up and down range of the arm I can operate it standing up as well as sitting down. Perfect...! Only thing left it to make mounting of the arm more permanent. Stay tuned.
Picure 2: Factory solution for 'storing' the controller. Works if you don't want to do anything but keep it off any horizontal surface.
Piture 3: My holder design. Essentially a big inverted keyhole for the knob and an additional cutout slot for the cable. The big knob goes through and slides down. The thickness of the holder worked out perfectly in that there is a little bit of friction holding it in place when that first groove of the knob engages the keyhole as it slides down.
Picture 4: The glued up 2x4s are my temporary way to mount the arm base. I wanted to try out the height range of the arm given this particular mounting height before I go about drilling and tapping holes into the stand. The shallow dado cut into the bottom keeps the beam from moving right and left. The wedges between the top and the frame keep it from moving back or forward for now.
Picture 5: Not ideal angle for the picture but you can see that I had to come up with another spacer behind the keyhole to accommodate the depth of the knob. I also used it to mount the VESA adapter to.
All in all, I am very happy how it turned out. I really like being able to push buttons without having to hold the pendant. And the height is perfect as I usually find myself operating the machine sitting as well as standing up.
Thank you branson again for the idea...
