I just set up my LASER module and am experimenting with feed speeds, and I'll be posting my experiences here.
The tool I added & used is right out of the AXIOM directions: End Mill with a 0.012" diameter. Pass depth of 0.001" 75% step-over (0.009"). I initially set the plunge rate to 0.001" per minute, which is a huge mistake! If you do this, you'll learn why your estimated times take forever. After installing, I got an error every time I tried to set the HOME coordinates. Pressing MENU+0 (both at the same time) reset the machine to the proper mode.
My 1st trial run on Baltic Birch and 100 ipm went well, mostly. I set up the toolpath as a quick engrave with no cross-hatch. Some small letters cut too deep, so I will try 200 ipm with a cross-hatch next.

So...what plunge rate DID you end up using? Any thoughts on adjusting the stepover?

So...what plunge rate DID you end up using? Any thoughts on adjusting the stepover? Plunge rate set to 100 ipm. Problem solved! - don’t set it that fast on rotating tools. A fast plunge rate does not matter for the LASER. stepover - have not changed it. Have not felt the need. 200 ipm with a crosshatch did not solve the issue of cutting too deep on small letters. Instead, I outlined the letters vs. filling them. Crosshatch (or fill) on small things cannot take advantage of a faster feed rate. The same applies to “smooth” lines that are not actually smooth.... the spindle movement follows the path with tiny zig-zag movements which do not allow the spindle to reach speed. I need to see if VCarve has an option to smooth lines. For instance, lines (Vectors) that are drawn around imported images.

You don't need to set the Z to 200 ipm. Set the Vcarve/Material Setup/Rapid Z Gap to Clearance 0.001 inches and Plunge to 0.001 inches. The Z will stay in place through the entire burn after the initial Z drop.
