All has been well for about 3 months of use with my AR8 Pro. Until today. My Z axis will go down but when I try to move up all I get is a "groan" as if the stepper is pushing a mechanical limit. This also occurs when I use the puck to zero my Z. The spindle comes down touches the puck and groans without moving up. I power things off/on, checked for binding, checked the coupler to stepper motor allens everything seems fine, rails & screws are clean and slightly lubed.
No you ask how I get Z back up?? Well if I press home all and include Z all axis homes no issues. I can also just "home Z" again no issue..... I can have Z bottomed out , manually it just groans, If I "home all" or "home Z" it functions fine. Any insight greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a common problem. See the other thread here where this user just resolved his issue by reinstalling the base setup files in the controller. I have these files and would be glad to share them but am a little afraid there may be some differences since my machine has some age on it. I have an AR8Pro with an RichAuto A11 Controller on it. The machine makes a fast move away from the puck when it first touches it and I suspect that fast move may be trying to take place too quickly resulting in stalling the stepper. axiomprecision.proboards.com/thread/505/axis-travels-1-inches-stops?page=1&scrollTo=2688
