I know that this subject has been discussed before but I want to warn everyone about a loose "Z Axis". I just removed the cover for the stepper motor and found that the coupling was about half disengaged. The bottom half appeared to be loose so I pushed it back up and tightened the set screw on both halves. I hope that this is the correct procedure, leaving a gap between the coupling and the bearing housing? Can anybody confirm this? I am currently running a four hour job and it seems to be OK.

The coupling should be centered between the stepper motor and the shaft it's mounted to. Make sure those set screws are tight. Additionally, tighten the set screws on the Y and X axis. Mine were not tight when I got the machine. After that all should be good.
