I had a job that I had to stop as it was getting to close to a clamp but when I tried to restart using the instructions I found it just plane didnt go back to the place it should have. Has anyone had success with this? I did a home all then the Ctrl + 1 thing but no luck.

When you stopped the machine, did you use the stop button and save a break?
When you resume from a break point, the controller will show you the line of gcode the operation was on when the break occurred. However, if the X+/- button is pressed the line of gcode will move.
This can be useful if the stop was due to a bit breaking, allowing the user to move backwards in the code to a point before the break.

You also have to be careful that you do not accidentally change the origin, or origin state before resuming the file otherwise it will pick up were it left off in the incorrect location.

I did a stop/cancel then said yes to save the break point then a home all, then the Ctrl+1 to try and start again.

To answer your question Gene35146, I've used the "Stop/Cancel" function many times with no issues. I assume when you say "Ctrl" you are referring to the "Run/Pause Delete" button. (Do some say Ctrl?) I don't think I've ever hit "Home All" after I've saved the break point, but maybe an "Origin OK" button a few times. The machine generally seems to start back up just a few lines prior to where I think I stopped it, but then continues correctly. I would be suspicious of hitting Home All.
