Your projects are very nice. The inlay work looks to be dead on. Great job on all of it. I would be happy if I could make anything that nice.

Thank you for looking!! My CNC is finding it's way into most things I do now. It is great fun and Vetric software makes it easy. The track is inlayed into the cribbage board .125 inches. It basically dropped into place with little adjustment. I am constantly amazed at what I am able to do with it. I have found that it is best to cut the inlay first with no tolerance and then add .002-.003 into the pocket for an easy fit. There are about 500 drilled holes along with the track lines that were cut in with a Vbit. All positioned perfectly. It would have been an extremely tedious process with a handheld, if not impossible. I also did a little bit of decorative carving on the sides of this one which is not shown. I have made several of these. I have always done small drawers, like these, on my projects with mortise and tenon joints using lots of tedious set ups on a router table. Now I just draw them up and cut them out along with the mortise pockets. It is so much easier. The stationary box is not a big deal. It just has a 3D carving that was made and then inlayed into the top. The pocket for the strips was easily cut in with a .25 end mill, which I have always done by hand in the past. The compass rose is destined to be a lid decoration for another stationary box. That is a vinlay that was done in 4 stages. Since each stage required the piece to be removed from the table and then replaced. The origin (xy) had to be dead on perfect each time without moving throughout the process. The wedge frame accomplished that for me. Thank you Axiom!!! the machine is doing all that great stuff, not me. All I do is program it and turn it loose.

stevem, you can make stuff that nice. It just takes a little practice, but mostly imagination. I use pinterest and youtube for inspiration when I'm out of ideas myself. I don't have many of my screw-ups because someone usually wants it, so I'll make them happy and give it to them.
