My first attempt at making a live edge chair. My summer project is to make a live edge dining room table and matching chairs, so this was an experiment. I saw a sunflower inlay on Etsy and thought it looked cool, so I threw it into the design of the chair. I used Peruvian Walnut for the center because its color is more consistent throughout than the black walnut I have available to me. The petals are yellowheart. I inlaid each one individually so the grain for each petal would be coming from the center of the flower. To me, yellowheart is such a great wood to inlay with because of the way it shines when you finish it. I made the seat scoop in Vectric V-Carve Pro by using the moulding toolpath. I started off with the back squared on top, but it looked like a tombstone, so I put an angle cut on each side. It looks okay, but still seems like it could stand some improvement. Any thoughts?

No lie: this is right cool. As long as it's the right height from knee to floor and comfortable, it's a winner. Now make 3 more so you have a set <g>
I don't want to come across as flippant: the design is awesome and took some time to create. The choice of wood for depth of color is also REALLY nice.
No Offence intended, but your moniker is reflective of a hero of mine who got me hooked on this habit...
Good on you for making things that make other people happy. Tim

Train driver, Chair looks awesomely comfortable, great detail and workmanship with inlaying and texture on sunflower center. The metal craftsmanship along with the woodworking detail brings it up a couple of notches! These two disciplines compliment this design, making it more unique and also more desirable ! Keep up your work! ( somehow your ID
image turned 90 degrees ??)

It is pretty comfy. The frame is made from 1" x 1/4" flat bar, so the back is a little springy and gives just a little when you lean back.
