I'm disturbed by your statement above "I had to put the bit all the way into the collett because if I didn't it was going almost through the 3/4 in board" This sounds like to me that you're not setting your Z-height properly...either that or your material thickness is off in the file. Make sure that where you are reading your Z height (ie the top of the material or the top of the spoilboard) is the same as what you've told the software that you're doing.
Run your job setup sheet (should be the icon just to the left of the "save toolpath" icon in your Vectric software). It will show you the maximum cut depth of each toolpath. If it's something "close" to your material thickness, then you want to change your tool parameters.
Also...are you using tool parameters from the database (such as Amana's) to match the bits that you have (by bit number)?...or did you input the tool yourself? This is another area where errors can be made.

If your vbit was going almost through the board, then your Z is definitely set incorrectly. Did you replace Michael's bits with equivalents from your own bit definition from the database. If you are moving the bit up in the collett to get a shallower cut, then you are definitely setting your Z incorrectly.
Each time a new bit is chucked... 1. Insert bit and tighten bit. 2. Put Puck directly under bit. 3. Hit TOOL SET KEY. 4. Bit will move down and touch off on puck. 5. Z IS SET.
YOU MUST DO THIS FOR EVERY BIT CHANGE. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN RUNNING WITH THE DEPTH PREVIOUSLY SET.

Lesad: You adjust the cut depth when you select the V-bit. On the right side where is says toolpath, you have the option to set the start depth or you can set the depth in the box just below that saying Flat depth. You could start out by having start depth at 0. See what that looks like! I usually start out a job on something I have never cut before by using a test piece of MDF. It's cheap and cuts easy.

She's carving a Michael Tyler Paradise box. That is the standard cover, with all the toolpaths set. Only change to your bit in your tool database, recalc, and go.
