Hi all, I am seriously considering buying an ar16 and would like to know if there are any model Axiom in use in Portland Or. And if so would said owner be willing to show me around the machine for a bit. I know Rockler sells them, but, I can not seem to get a demo at the store. Its like nobody really knows how to operate it.
Thanks for any help.

I'm guessing that AR8+ = AR8 Pro+ ... yes? I've been leaning towards that machine as well; it looks like the Basic versions have routers, not spindles, and aren't compatible with the 4th axis rotary kit. I'm near Stevenson WA.

Yep...AR8 Pro+ Once you get it up and running it's a nice little machine but the company still has teething pains... Read the blog about the problems we've all had and be prepared to deal with them yourself...most are minor inconveniences that are relatively straight forward to fix but there have been a few show stoppers due to the lack of testing before shipping...others like the latest that just showed up with mine (fluid in cooling system turned black after 5 months) mean that in addition to paying a hefty price for the machine I now get to do the things Axiom should have done (and claims to do before shipping)...quality control is iffy at best and once you buy the beast you can't easily return it...

I'd like to assure everyone that all the machines are setup and tested here in house, before being packaged and shipped to their final destination.
There are some inherent problems with freight shipping, such as the crazy amount of shaking that these machines undergo during a long shipment in the back of several semi trucks from our location to yours. And many issues can result from this.
Its not uncommon for any machine that's shipped like this to have the occasional loose nut/bolt.
Aside from shipping damages (which "knock on wood" is very minimal) with over 5000 machines on the market...issues have been limited.
The largest has been due to the acrylic on dust shoes cracking. Material changes had caused this 2 years into that accessory run...we have now replaced that with a polycarbonate material and do not expect to see further issues.
Unfortunately the discoloration in the cooling lines is persistent. This has been traced back to a simple reaction in the fluid due to the copper lined spindle. Copper when exposed to the coolant develops a black coating which is then absorbed by the vinyl tubing.
Let me remind you the the cooling systems used by other CNC machines are all plagued by problems due to independent power supplies, non-sealed tanks allowing debris to enter and evaporation not to mention very poor heat distribution.
We know the discoloration is not ideal, however, it is a sealed system and thus far the discoloration to the coolant has not effected the cooling systems ability to dissipate heat in the least.
We have tested other coolants but unfortunately they can cause larger problems such as pump failure. The discoloration is minimized in most cases by changing the coolant every 4-6 months as recommended...the system can be flushed at that time with distilled water.
