Hey all. I have been reading a lot of forum posts regarding 2 sided-machining, and this link popped in my email inbox: linkI HAVEN'T looked at everything at that link, but I figure it might help someone out (and I'm forgetful, so I have to post things like this as I find them). YMMV Allan

I would definitely not use that fixture. Notice in the videos that the top and bottom halves don't line up and require both a lot of surface sanding because the machine isn't rigid at all as well as at the misaligned joint because of the technique and again lack of rigidity.
I do a lot of double-sided machining and the best way is to clamp your piece, machine dowel pin holes in the top for when it faces down as well as your top half design, then when you go to flip the workpiece, machine dowel pin holes in your spoil board and mate the two sets then clamp and machine the bottom half. I have an array of holes in my spoil board on 2" centers so I can reuse them. Use precision machined hardened and ground dowel pins, you can get a box of 100 for about $10. I use 5/8" long both 1/8" and 1/4" and make the holes 0.124" and 0.249" respectively and 0.34" deep, don't use wood pins.

Fean, thanks for the input. Again, I posted it without reviewing it, as well, I am a rank amateur, so your knowledge on the matter is appreciated.
I have read your posts (re double-side machining) a few times, and the light bulb finally went on! I couldn't visualize how the drilling of the holes into the top piece, and then the exact same hole placement into the spoilboard, worked out but it suddenly became crystal clear when I read that description. I can't wait to try it out.
Thanks again,
Allan
