I've been working with maple lately, and it has a tendency to change grain direction quite often, which results in tearout on the jointer no matter which way the board is run. I just created a job with a single line, and ran a 1/2 inch bit along the edge, just a plain 1/2 inch plunge straight bit. The resulting edge is amazing, it's flat, straight, tearout free. The pieces join together perfectly no matter how much the grain changes. There is no dust, just nice little shavings off the edge. Once the job is set up, you can easily run multiple boards, as the x,y and z axis never change.

That's a great idea! I was going to buy a jointer for straightening up old wood for up cycling projects but I think that I'm going to try jointing with the CNC first.
