I'm having the same problem now...and unfortunately my machine is out of warranty. I already had a control board go out and now I've got a pendant failure...theres no way I'm paying axioms inflated prices to replace something on a machine with such a high failure rate. Does anyone have experience with the rich auto controllers from ebay or other alternate source? Firmware updated fixed my problem!

If freezing occurs at the first boot, a version update is required.

Sadly - this didn't fix the problem for me. What's next? I recently had this exact same problem. My A11 looked just like the above photo at power up. It didn't make sense, but having seen this, I also checked the 24v at the DSP board. It was there. I even checked it by removing a wire and booting. In that state, the screen backlight did not come on. So, if you have the backlight, your 24v is probably good. From reading some other things online here, it appeared this could be related to the firmware not loading correctly, maybe having been corrupted somehow. I called Chad on this and he said in some cases they have been able to update the firmware to the latest version and resolve this issue. He said if it will come up when you power up to EMERGENCY STATE (power on while holding the OK button), it's a firmware issue and you can update firmware and should be fine after that. If it won't come up in EMERGENCY STATE he said it's basically a bad handle/pendant. He said he had about 17 of these at their shop, as they have seen a few of these failures. My machine is an early machine (AR8 Pro), and had it's original firmware. It had run fine for over a year, so it was, of course, out of warranty. It was going to cost me around $645 (if I remember correctly) for just the A11 handle to replace it. No cable or board, just the pendant (called the "handle" in some of the documentation). You can get the complete set (A11E handle, cable and controller board) for around $345 from China if you want to wait for it, then pay any duties. Also note you would still have to update to the firmware from Axiom if you bought it direct. At first, I thought I'd buy it direct to save a little money, plus have extra parts for spares, but after a while, I decided I didn't want to be down while waiting for a "slow boat from China". So, Once I decided I would drop the money for the Axiom replacement, I figured I's tear into it to check everything I could. I broke the seal and opened it. No burnt chips, no bad daughter board mounts, no bad ribbon cable latches. All seemed fine. At this point I dove into internet research to find like problems with this controller and as much product documentation as I could find. From that I discovered (from the product MANUAL of all places... who reads those things, anyway?) the handle can be disconnected from the Axiom Controller box (white box) and powered up from a PC via a USB cable. It then boots up in USB mode, and appears to your PC to be a USB drive. I tried that with no change in the blank screen. For whatever reason, I tried it a few times, plugging and unplugging the USB cable. Then, out of the blue, it booted up in USB mode. It worked fine, and I could transfer files to and from it. But, when I unplugged it and it powered off, the next boot was back to a blank screen. Like it never booted up. Based on this, I just kept powering it up and down until it once again booted. It would boot in USB mode about once every 12-15 times. This made me believe it was really a firmware loading issue, not defective hardware. Chad sent me the new firmware files and I eventually got it to boot in EMERGENCY STATE by simply powering on repeatedly (took a LOT of tries). Once it was in EMERGENCY STATE, I updated the firmware, and I have not seen a boot failure since. I'm passing this experience along so someone else will know even if it initially appears to be a bad A11 Handle, it could still be firmware not booting. I had resigned myself to replacing it, but for some reason just kept playing with it. Best $645 I ever saved. Who knows, maybe a couple of those handles Chad has could be revived with a little repetitive power-on cycling. Hi Chuck, this just happened to me as well after I had the unit unplugged for about a month. In another forum, I see the issue happens if the main power to controller is off too long, seems their NVM just loses memory, cheaply made if you ask me. Anyway, some users reported being able to run an initialization file on startup to repair it, but came direct from China. I've been looking for the file without success. I tried cycling power, but just get a blank screen no matter what I do, via USB or control board. Just wondering if you or anyone else had any other suggestions.
