Your machine has stepper motors, meaning that what you see on the controller is where the machine "thinks" the spindle is located (because it "told" it to go there) and, having no feedback loop (which servo motors do have), it can only assume that the instructions were followed. Clearly that communication is not being conveyed to the motor that moves the X-axis. That is possibly good news because the problem is likely very simple.
I assume (always dangerous) that you have already checked all the connections for the cabling into your "controller box" (not the hand held unit).
Start at the X-axis stepper motor and trace the wires back, checking all plugs as you go. You'll likely find one vibrated loose in shipping. It might be close to the motor or buried under the gantry leg cover, you'll just have to look. While you're following the wires, look for any that are obviously broken. If you find nothing, it's time to break out the multimeter and (with the machine off) check for continuity. If the latter activity is beyond your capability, an early call to Chad at Axiom may yield some action in the form of a technician service call for your machine which apparently was DOA.
These things are checked out before shipment, but stuff does happen from time to time during shipping. Good Luck and let us know what you find.

Check to see if the X ballscrew is rotating. If not, check the coupler between the motor and the ballscrew.

Welcome to the forum mtwright. Sorry to hear about the issues with your new machine. I have had similar issues. Some wise person on this forum explained to me that the machines have been bounced from China to Columbus and then to your house. Connections can some loose and wires can break. If you search the forum for X-axis and Y-axis issues, you will find some troubleshooting ideas from others. If you search on my old posts, you will find some pix of my past issues. Axiom Tech Support told me to switch around the plug wires on the X&Y to help narrow down the issue. These guys will get you up and running. Good Luck. Post back with your results.

When I got my machine, I opened the box and checked every connection to make sure it was tight. I also opened the side of the gantry, where the wires go to the spindle and everything else and found that the connector to the X axis stepper had come apart. It really only takes a few minutes to check everything. Another thing I did was to make sure all the allen screws on the couplers were tight. Some of mine needed tightening. After that if you have any problems, calling Chad should resolve any issues that come up. I have had occasion to call support, and they have always been very helpful. The other thing I would suggest is to watch as many or all the Vectric tutorials you can. Some of them I have watched many times. That will assist you in getting up and running an provide you with great support.
